A New Journey Begins
The Online Physics Teacher: A New Journey Begins
Hello, physics enthusiasts, curious minds, and future scientists!
I’m thrilled to officially re-launch “The Online Physics Teacher”! I started this site nearly 15 years ago as a landing page for my online tutoring service, and to be honest, I didn’t do anything with a blog. This site will become a platform to highlight my passion for making physics accessible, engaging, and dare I say it – fun! Allow me to introduce myself and share what this educational journey has in store for you.
Who Am I?
I’m Robin, a dedicated physics educator with more than three decades of experience. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Physics, a Master of Education with Physics emphasis and am a licensed physics teacher in New York State. I am also certified in Mathematics and Earth Science. I have 20 years of classroom experience where I taught a variety of physics classes as well as earth science. When I left the classroom, I turned to teaching online and began tutoring and have been doing so for the last 15 years. Over the years, I’ve developed a teaching philosophy centered on breaking down complex concepts into digestible, real-world applications coupled with hands-on experiences.
What sets my approach apart is my belief that physics isn’t just a subject to be studied by future scientists – it’s a lens through which we can view and understand our world. It is my mission to bring this educational experience to as many students as I can.
What is The Online Physics Teacher?
The Online Physics Teacher is more than just another educational website. It’s a comprehensive learning ecosystem designed for homeschool students who are looking for an engaging and rigorous physics course.
Our current membership platform offers:
- Solutions Library: Hundreds of common physics problems that have a step-by-step video solution. Problems cover the areas of mechanics, energy, thermodynamics, electricity and magnetism, wave phenomena and modern physics. This library is constantly expanding, fueled by requests from current students who are looking for help and submit problems.
- Video Lessons: Clear, concise explanations of physics concepts with visual demonstrations. Users get to choose their own path; linear or spiral. Most curricula are linear in nature (start with a simple topic, and continue expanding it until the end of the section. However, there are common curricula, such as Saxon, where every lesson is from a different section of physics and forces constant review. In order for the Video Lessons to be able to make physics accessible for all students, we have arranged the videos in ways that work with either path.
- Digital Resources: This is an ever changing section where we are constantly adding new resources for download. Some of these resources are included in the membership while others are available for purchase.
- Community Support: Membership gives access to our Slack community, a space where physics learners can connect, collaborate, and grow together.
What’s Coming Next?
This is just the beginning of our journey together, and I’m excited about what lies ahead. In the next 12 months, you can look forward to:
- We will be opening our doors to our membership for beta testers in just a few weeks (May 2025). If you are interested in literally being in on the ground floor, get on our wait list by clicking the link below.
- Our support membership will be open and ready for the 2025-2026 school year.
- During the school year, we will be releasing sections of our own comprehensive curriculum covering. The full curriculum will include lessons, practice problems, assessments, study guides and labs. Everything you will need to homeschool physics in one integrated package and be ready for the 2026 – 2027 school year.
- Weekly live group Q&A sessions where you will have a chance to get any extra questions answered.
- Downloadable study guides and problem sets tailored to different learning styles including gamification of the course.
Over the next few years, we will be creating several new physics curricula aimed at various academic levels from middle school through highschool and at all math levels.
And here’s a little teaser – we’re developing an interactive physics simulation app that will allow you to experiment with variables and see physics principles in action from your smartphone. Stay tuned for the beta release!
Why This Matters
In a world increasingly driven by technology and scientific advancement, physics literacy isn’t just for future scientists – it’s for everyone. Understanding the basic principles that govern our universe helps us make sense of everything from climate science to new technologies.
My mission with The Online Physics Teacher is to demystify physics and make it accessible to anyone with curiosity, regardless of their mathematical background or previous exposure to the subject.
Join Me On This Journey
Whether you’re a student looking for extra help, a parent (or teacher) seeking fresh approaches to explain difficult concepts, or simply someone fascinated by how our universe works, I invite you to join our growing community.
